I have worked as an assistant professor at the Department of International Relations, Bilkent University since 2006. I have served as the department vice-chair from 2009-2012. In April 2011, I pursued the state tenure awarded by YÖK and was awarded associate professorship. I am currently a visiting research scholar at the University of Maryland, START Center.

I enjoy studying a wide array of issues in political science and international relations including; democratization and international/civil conflicts, third party interventions, religious fundamentalism and terrorism, civil-military relations. 

I have carried out field research in Iraq and Southeastern Turkey and published book chapters as well as articles at peer-reviewed journals such as the Comparative Political Studies, Terrorism and Political Violence, Armed Forces and Society and Turkish Studies. I am currently working on a book project on democratization and interventions in civil wars and have another book project on civil-military relations in Turkey and the Middle East.
